The children are thoroughly enjoying exploring all things nature this summer term. We’re watching the tadpoles gradually turn into frogs, we have a beautiful butterfly garden and a special visitor, Poppy the tortoise, came along to see us! We have been making our own bees and beehives; some felt ladybirds and cute caterpillars with cress hair to grow at home!
We’re pleased to announce that our preschool is signing up for the new 30hrs free childcare, which starts in September for those who qualify. Eligible parents/carers can split their free 30hrs across two settings if they wish, providing more flexibility. Our lunch clubs – open to all, will now be included in the free 15hr or 30hr free childcare for children 3 years plus.
We are open term time and currently offer Monday – Friday 09:00-12:00 with the option to stay until 3:00pm on a Wednesday. We run themed lunch clubs (12:00-1:00pm) on Mondays (Our World) and Thursdays (Music and Movement). Additional sessions will be added for the September term, please do contact us for further information. Our sessions are open to children from 2 ½ years old. Do give us a call or email to arrange a visit as we’d love to show you around.
Jack and Jill – the nurturing preschool where children can freeflow between a large, private garden and indoor play area
The summer term has finally arrived (although presently it doesn’t feel like summer)! Our garden has been spring cleaned with a new area cordoned off containing woodchip. The children have had great fun burying toys in it, asking others to guess where they are hidden, which resulted in a treasure hunt. Our new wheelbarrows have also been a success with the children managing to transport resources safely. In science and investigation, they have been exploring with magnets, making ice lollies learning about the properties of ice, using their senses with our home grown fragrant herbs, and exploring patterns by printing with jars and blocks.
From September our opening times will change to 9.15am-3.15pm, Monday to Friday, term time, which will allow us to offer the 30 hours free childcare for eligible working parents of 3-4 year olds. For those not eligible for this funding, the current 15 hours free childcare funding is still available for children aged 3 years+. Children aged 2 can attend the morning session 9.15-12.15pm only with the option of a lunch club from 12.15- 1.15pm from 2 years/9 months upwards. Children aged 3-4 will have the option of either a morning, afternoon or all day session. A late pickup time of 3.30pm can be offered at an additional charge.
Further details are available on request.
There have been some very exciting new developments here at Sunshine. Our new garden to the rear of the hub has finally been completed and we are making full use of it in this summer term. We have planted some pumpkin and tomato seeds and have two big planters that are waiting for the new plants to arrive (we are making full use of digging in them first!). We are also loving watching the water trickle down through drain pipes and containers in our new home-made water feature on the back fence. Recently, we adopted some caterpillars and we will watch them as they eat through their ‘caterpillar food’ (not quite what the Hungry Caterpillar eats!) before hopefully emerging as beautiful butterflies!
The other exciting news is that we are now open for two afternoon sessions a week, the Monday and Tuesday until 2.45pm and we have some exciting themes set up for these sessions suitable for all but a chance for the older children to do some slightly more challenging activities. This is in addition to our usual lunch clubs. Later on in July we will have our Leaver’s Service and Summer Trip.
Our sessions run Mon-Fri, 9.15am -12.15pm, afternoons on Mon & Tues 12.15-2.45pm with lunch clubs on a Monday and Wednesday from 12:15 to 13:15pm. We have spaces available and if you would like to put your child’s name down on the waiting list please contact us.

What a busy half-term! Oaks class have been preparing for the transition into Reception by learning their letter sounds. They have been learning a sound a day using our ‘Read Write Inc’ scheme and the children have been practising how to hold their pencils correctly.
Oaks class had a wonderful trip to Ladyland Farm where they spent the day as farmers, helping to feed the baby animals and enjoying a bouncy tractor ride!
Acorns class have been exploring Space, they have learnt all about Planet Earth, have used balloons to paint their own Earth, have marble rolled their own planets and turned themselves into scary aliens. In Forest School, they even cut their own wood roundels with saws and made them into ‘Earth’ planets!
The youngest children in Pippins have been enjoying their Summer theme; they made some beautiful shiny fish using old CDs, bright sunshines with colourful rays and are currently growing some grass heads.
