Copthorne WI A visit to the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory in May inspired the decoration for our stall at the Carnival. We were pleased to have a coach trip to Richmond in May to visit the Poppy Factory. Our guide gave a fascinating talk about the history of Poppy Day and the production of the poppies which we are all proud to wear in November. We saw a little of the working of the factory and were fascinated to see how the machines cut out the poppies from huge reels of red. But what do they do with the waste material after the cutting? – give it away to people who ask nicely. And that is how we ended up with the ribbon decorations on our carnival stall this year.
