Monday morning at 8 is not the best time to be on the M25 and the journey to Denman, the WI’s own residential college in Oxfordshire, was somewhat tedious. However, the effort was well worth it for the ladies involved. On arrival they were welcomed with refreshments before watching a cookery demonstration – Banana and raspberry loaf, blueberry muffins, rhubarb syllabub. Lunch and a tour of the house and facilities followed. Must be healthy, they’ve got lots of fruit in them! The accommodation was impressive, the cookery school had everything one could require and the grounds would be a lovely place to sit and relax. There is an amazing range of courses on offer from cookery and craft to history, literature, walking and yoga. Tea and cakes provided sustenance for the journey home. We hope these visitors will be inspired to return for a stay, maybe taking advantage of a bursary from our WI.
