This summer Girlguiding Copthorne has been dominated by WS2017!
WS camps have been held in West Sussex for more than 30 years and feature as a high point in the County Scout and Guide programme. It is an international experience for around 4000 young people from around the world, held every 4 years. They join in a week of activities together, all based around a Harry Potter theme for 2017.
Our international link were girl Scouts from Taiwan, arriving a few days before going to camp. They enjoyed home hospitality and were amazing. We will keep in touch for years to come. The Rangers were linked to Girl Scouts from the USA.
Once at camp the girls had access to water activities, abseiling, climbing, archery, parascending and other adventurous and challenging activities. Plus cultural activities, sub-camp competitions, musical entertainments, social events, live bands, discos, crafts and even more! They embraced many new challenges and could even be pictured building a wall!
Some of the girls took to the stage and competed in the WS’s Got Talent competition and performed in the opening ceremony. Highlights included the Hogwarts Express (made in Copthorne), Rainbows and Brownies visiting and overcoming many challenges to provide the unique experience of being in girlguiding.
