Our February meeting saw members leaving their husbands and partners alone on Valentine’s night in favour of a Fish and Chip Supper at the Village Hall. In recognition of the day the tables were decorated with hearts and flowers, ladies dressed in their finery and stretched their brains with a Valentine’s quiz. It was a lovely fun evening in good company.
On a more serious note it is perhaps indicative of the general age demographic of the membership that many of our members were coming out to enjoy the company of friends on a day which has become a day for couples. Many of our current members joined during their 30s or 40s and have enjoyed many years with Copthorne WI. Now, we would love to see some younger women coming along to join us. Would a new generation take over and change us? Quite possibly, but that could and should be a good thing.
Looking forward to the spring we welcome a return visit by Libby Grover from Flowers and Such to our March meeting. What better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring than with flowers. Our April meeting is intriguingly entitled “Sheep –Garment”, a reminder that Spring is lambing time (and who doesn’t love to see the lambs in the fields) and of the importance of wool in our historic economy.
