Chop, Chop, Chop! By Oscar, Copthorne C.E. Junior School
Right now in Copthorne you might have heard about the building industry building lots of houses. I understand why we need to build more houses for people to live in but I do have concerns about this. One of the things that I really like about living in Copthorne is that there are woods for children like me to play in. At the moment, I like building dens with my friends and exploring the woods and role playing. We are really lucky in Copthorne that we have some beautiful woods with lots of natural areas for us to enjoy.
I am worried about all of the trees being chopped down and woodland destroyed because there are a lot of magnificent creatures and animals out there in the woods: foxes; deer; caterpillars; birds. Their homes are being destroyed for us to make our houses and this isn’t fair!
Also, who will buy these houses? All of the houses being built now are really pricey and although we’re told they’re for people that don’t have houses, I don’t think they’ll be affordable for young people in the village that need them. If they are going to cut down our woodland, they should at least cut the price of the houses! In addition, people won’t really want to buy these houses as they are right next to the motorway. So on top of losing the trees that make our environment nicer, they will be breathing in fumes from the motorway and this isn’t good for anyone. Some people might not choose these houses because they will be cramped into our small village.
So chop, chop, chop people of Copthorne, let’s all try to get the developers to hear the message that they’ve already taken enough of our woodland and we don’t want to lose anymore.
